Raine Sarmiento is a figurative painter born in Valenzuela City, Philippines. She began drawing at the age of five and started winning art competitions at seven.After completing her BFA major in Advertising Arts in 2008, she worked as a graphic designer for several advertising agencies and created illustrations for magazines and a newspaper in Metro Manila. She began participating in group exhibitions in 2013, gradually transitioning from commercial art to a fine art practice.Working primarily in oil, she creates symbolic figurative paintings that investigate how trauma and lived experience become embedded in the body. Rather than depicting specific events, she builds imagined scenes where gesture, posture, and symbolism evoke the psychological traces of these experiences.Influenced by classical art and the imaginative worlds of animated films and video games, she combines realism with fantasy-inspired imagery. Her practice continues to explore how the body remembers the environments that have shaped it.
